Hey, I had a '68 Midget! I didn't have any trouble shifting into first, but getting it out of reverse was a different matter. The first time it locked up in reverse, I was getting it towed home while holding the clutch in manually. Little did I know that the hydraulic clutch would 'leakdown' after a while. It must have looked cool - being towed down the road at 45mph with the rear wheels locked and skidding while standing up and shouting to the car ahead 'I DO have the clutch pushed in!!!". I replaced that tranny with a used one (along with a new clutch) and a month later the same thing happened.
Another time the front brake hose blew while coming to a stop - a 10mph crash into the car ahead of me crumpled my grill, headlights, fenders and hood - while taking a little chip out of their taillight.
